Ellen Langtree is a sculptor and painter based in Vermont.
Ellen Langtree has always been creating. This is in the soul. The first 18 years it was sculpting in clay. Once in college, Langtree’s learning turned to 2D. 3D was the past.
Graphic Design became the primary interest, design design design. Langtree later transitioned to Printmaking, experimenting with tusche (toad-skin) combined with a drawn line on limestone for lithography. An authentic style was recognized in printed images. Graduating from the University of Oregon, Langtree turned to painting, and in 1977, began exhibiting.
In 1988 Langtree was Vermont Life’s Featured Artist. AVA Gallery in New Hampshire and Passepartout Gallery in Vermont represented her. Langtree was in a Vermont Invitational at the Pindar Gallery in NYC, and was a chosen finalist for a Regional Selections show at the Hood Museum of Art in Hanover, NH. Langtree continued as an exhibiting painter until 1995 when life shifted.
Langtree enrolled in an Adult Degree Program at Vermont College to obtain a professional teaching licensure. In 1997, she obtained a K-12 endorsement for Art Education. That fall, Langtree began a 20 year teaching career.
Creativity continued with the development of a Sculpture course, a 2D 3D Design curriculum, followed by Cartoon study and Painting, which followed Vermont’s State and National Standards. Langtree encouraged students to develop their own authentic personal voices through visual experiments and growth. She taught an appreciation for the creative process through learning methods and techniques.
Langtree inspired and influenced thousands of young people. Requiring fair, safe, and hard work cultivated a positive atmosphere in the art room. Her background as an exhibiting artist made Langtree a unique educator, which benefited her students. She taught an appreciation for the artistic process and to appreciate art in its many styles and forms. After years of teaching, Langtree retired in 2016.
Upon retirement, Langtree returned to sculpture. Clay was the inspiration. 2022 marked the beginning of group exhibits and solo shows. One must feed the soul.
